The consumer confidence indicator in Estonia improved to minus three in April from minus five in March, the Estonian Institute of Economic Research said on Tuesday.

Minor improvements were recorded in all components of the indicator, the institute said.

In April 26 percent of respondents forecast the economic situation of their family to be significantly or somewhat better 12 months from now, 49 percent saw no change ahead and 20 percent feared a deterioration.

It also appears from the study that the financial situation of households has not changed compared with the preceding month. Of the households surveyed 50 percent were able to make ends meet, 39 percent were able to save and 11 percent lived spending either savings from previous periods or off debt. In the lowest income segment 20 percent of households experienced financial difficulties and 19 percent were able to save. In the top segment 65 percent were able to save and 5 percent had financial troubles.

The flash indicator of consumer confidence published by the European Commission suggested an increase in consumer confidence both in the EU27 as well as the euro area in April.
