A row between a group of men in the northeast Estonian city of Narva at the end of last week led to a shooting in the course of which the gunman killed one man, wounded another and sustained injuries himself.

The initial comment by the Viru regional prosecutor's office was laconic, only confirming that the incident occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday in Narva's Pähklimäe Street and that 20-year-old Deniss who was shot in the chest was hospitalized but medics were unable to save his life.

"At the same time and in the same place 19-year-old Anton got shot in the leg. He was given first aid. The suspect is 34-year-old Aleksei who is receiving treatment in hospital," a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office told BNS.

She said investigators will interrogate the suspect as soon as possible after which the prosecutor's office will apply for an arrest warrant. An inquiry is in progress to establish the circumstances of the incident, she added.

The police has opened a criminal proceeding basing on the Penal Code's manslaughter article for the time being.
