The body of a 15-year-old girl who had been stabbed to death was found at the Tamsalu health track in Estonia's West-Viru County around 07:00 Friday.

Police opened an inquiry and detained a 15-year-old youth and a 33-year-old woman as murder suspects, spokeswoman for the Viru regional prosecutor's office Katri Krall said.

"The suspects have not been questioned as yet, but after the interrogation the prosecutor will decide whether to take them into custody. The victim and the suspects knew each other. All the other circumstances will be established by the investigation," she said.

Conviction for murder carries imprisonment for up to life and in the case of a minor, for up to 10 years as punishment.
