On Monday, 18 March, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Lauri Bambus and Estonian Ambassador to Bulgaria Toomas Kukk opened the Estonian honorary consulate in Burgas. It is Estonia’s second honorary consulate in Bulgaria. Estonia’s new honorary consul is Petko Roussinov.

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Lauri Bambus noted at the opening of the honorary consulate that the work of the honorary consul will help to intensify Estonia and Bulgaria’s good bilateral relations. Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast is a popular tourism destination for Estonian tourists and the honorary consul in Burgas can, when necessary, provide consular aid to Estonian citizens.

At the meeting of the Estonian delegation with Governor of Burgas Province Konstantin Grebenarov and Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov, opportunities for co-operation between the province and city of Burgas and Estonia, primarily in the areas of culture, education, and tourism, were discussed. Since the city of Burgas is a candidate to become a European Capital of Culture, the mayor of Burgas is very interested in hearing about Tallinn’s recent experiences with this title.
