All the three ice roads opened by the Estonian Road Administration this winter remained open to traffic.

The tracks on Baltic Sea ice that ice conditions permitted to open this winter are between the mainland and the Gulf of Riga island of Kihnu, between the mainland and the northwestern island of Vormsi, and between the northwestern town of Haapsalu and Noarootsi peninsula across the Haapsalu Bay.

The three ice roads are respectively 12 kilometers, 9.6 kilometers and 3.9 kilometers long.

Ice roads can be used by vehicles with a mass of up to 2.5 tons and they will remain open as long as the weather permits.

Last winter two ice roads were opened in Estonia. The Haapsalu-Noarootsi road was used by 3,538 cars and the Rohukula-Vormsi road, by 1,778 cars.

Six ice roads were opened in the winter of 2011.
