New car sales in February up 19.2 pct on year

Dealers belonging to the association of Estonian car sale and service companies AMTEL sold 1,354 new passenger cars on the domestic market in February, 19.2 percent more than in the same month of the previous year.

The number of new cars sold to Estonian buyers in February 2012 was 1,128. In January this year domestic sales numbered 1,742 and in December last year, 1,041.

In the first two months of this year 3,057 new passenger cars were sold on the domestic market compared to 2,802 sales a year ago.

Of the cars sold in February 19 were mini cars, 143 small cars, 407 small medium cars, 266 medium cars and 28 large medium cars. Besides one luxury car, 104 station wagons and 384 jeeps were sold during the month. The dealers exported 27 new cars last month.

The most popular make in February was Toyota with 166 new cars sold, followed by Volkswagen with 134 and Honda with 111 sales.

AMTEL dealers also sold 212 new utility vehicles, including 159 vans, last month.

The total number of brand new vehicles sold by AMTEL dealers on the domestic market last month was 1,543. Thirty vehicles were sold for export.
