Beekeepers Call for More Production

Estonia is not producing enough honey to cover its own needs, with 250 tons of the sweet stuff imported each year, ERR News reported.

"We should have many more beekeepers," said head of the professional agriculture association, Jaanus Tull, in the Viljandi daily Sakala. "Too little honey is produced."

Estonia produces under 700 tons a year. Some of that is exported, though only two tons in 2011 according to Statistics Estonia. The shortfall is covered by importing from other countries.
