Estonian president names Toivo Tasa ambassador to South Korea

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves has appointed Toivo Tasa the new Estonian ambassador to South Korea.

The president also recalled from his post the previous ambassador to South Korea, Andres Unga, spokespeople for the head of state said.

The Estonian ambassador to South Korea resides in Tokyo, Japan.

Toivo Tasa joined the foreign service in 1991 and served as ambassador to Austria from 1995-1999, being simultaneously non-resident ambassador to Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Tasa then headed the Foreign Ministry's protocol department and served as ambassador to Hungary and Croatia in 2001-2006. In the years 2006-2008 Tasa was adviser to the speaker of the Estonian parliament and after that he worked as adviser to the Foreign Ministry's political department.

Tasa became Estonia's ambassador to Japan in 2010.
