As of Wednesday Tallink Grupp's passenger ferry Silja Europa will be serving the Tallinn-Helsinki route, the listed Estonian shipper announced.

The Silja Europa accommodates more passengers than the Baltic Princess that operated on the route so far.

The company expects the switch to boost the development of the Turku-Stockholm service and result in a positive economic effect for both routes owing to cost efficiency.

Built in Germany in 1993, the Silja Europa is 202 meters in length with a beam of 33 meters and can carry up to 3,123 passengers. It has six cabin classes, five different restaurants, two bars and two nightclubs, a beauty parlor, a sauna and four shops. The vessel has the 1A Super ice class and its maximum speed is 21.5 knots. The car deck of the ship can take on 932 line meters of vehicles and cargo units.

In connection with the switch of routes the Silja Europa will be transferred under the Tallink brand but its name will not change. Due to its entry into the Estonian ship register it will henceforth fly the Estonian flag.

The Baltic Princess that was transferred to the Turku-Stockholm route will be serving passengers under the Silja Line banner and the Finnish flag with a Finnish crew.

Tallink Grupp currently operates two fast ships, the Star and the Superstar, as well as the Silja Europa on the Tallinn-Helsinki route. The Turku-Stockholm route is served by two cruise ships, the Galaxy and the Baltic Princess.
