A crazed psychiatric patient attacked staff and patients at the Valga hospital in southern Estonia on Sunday night, leaving 12 people injured.

The attack took place between 10 and 11 p.m. The injured received immediate treatment. The raging patient was calmed down by the police and taken to the University of Tartu Psychiatric Hospital.

The manager of the hospital, Marek Seer, told BNS that the injured mostly suffered contusions and abrasions.

The hospital has extended sympathies to the victims and their loved ones. The management thanks the staff and the police whose skillful response allowed to take swift control of the situation.

"The situation of the hospital's patients and staff is peaceful at present. Nobody is in danger and work at the hospital continues as usual," Seer said.
