The Center Party has chosen Tarmo Tamm, head of its parliamentary group, to take over as minister of rural affairs following the resignation of Martin Repisnki.

Tamm, 63, has given his consent to the leader of the Center Party, Prime Minister Juri Ratas, and the Center Party is expected to announce his appointment later on Wednesday.

The prime minister has not yet taken the resignation of Repinski to the president for approval.

Repinski, 30, whom Center had picked for the rural affairs portfolio when becoming the senior government party last month, filed for his resignation on Tuesday in the wake of allegations of irregularities in the management of his farm business and the disclosure that he had been punished by a court for fraud 15 years ago.
