Mailis Reps, presidential candidate of the opposition Center Party, expressed her pleasure after the failure of the parliament to elect the president of Estonia for the next five years on Tuesday over the task of electing the head of state now passing to the electoral college.

Reps said his experiences from the past few months and direct contacts with potential members of the electoral college show that people in rural areas are very displeased with the present ruling coalition and this displeasure may be carried over also to their presidential candidates. Reps also said she has no doubt about her own strong support among members of the electoral college displeased with the actions of Reform's presidental candidate Siim Kallas and the party's chairman Taavi Roivas.

«Members of the electoral college will definitely remember that Kallas, Roivas and the Reform Party fought very fiercely for the election of the president not to go to the electoral college and for the leaders of local councils not to have a say in these elections," Reps said. "We on the other hand fought for it from the start that the election would pass on to the electoral college, and we won. This will not be forgotten,» she added.

«September 24 promises to be interesting. Displeasure and the feeling of being neglected caused by the administrative reform may lead to a protest vote the outcome of which nobody can predict. Over the next month I intend to met with many more members of the electoral college,» Reps said.
