Kremlin propaganda portal head Kornilov detained by Estonian police

Aleksandr Kornilov was detained yesterday as suspected in tax offence. In 2014 annual account by security police Mr Kornilov is listed for advancing the Kremlin propaganda.

According to prosecutor’s office, the public procedures performer yesterday were regarding suspected falsification of documents and false data filed to tax board.  

Currently, three individuals are under arrest including propaganda portal baltija.eu head Aleksandr Kornilov who according to security police data organised activities of website baltnews.ee.

Two years ago, a new media project was launched in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with Russian language based portals baltnews.ee, baltnews.lt and baltnews.lv introduced under the uniform trademark of Baltnews. The plan was to develop multimedia content and add (Internet) TV and radio capacity.

The project was financed via Media Capital Holding BV, registered in Holland and controlled by individuals related to Rossiya Segodnya (Россия сегодня).

Founders of Baltnews included Vladimir Lepehhin, Director General of the Institute of the Eurasian Economic Community active in affecting neighbouring nations to Russia. Mr Lepehhin visited Estonia in spring of 2014.

Aleksandr Kornilov was noted in the Panama papers.

The criminal procedure is conducted by Northern police prefecture as overseen by Northern district prosecutor’s office.
