Officials of the Estonian Internal Security Service (ISS) on Tuesday detained for 48 hours the head of the communications and safety department of the state-owned railway company Estonian Railways, Indrek Suld, who is suspected of violating tender rules.

«I can confirm that a proceeding was launched. Tenders worth millions of euros are being checked. I can't say more,» CEO of the railway company Sulev Loo said.

«A day before yesterday the Internal Security Service detained a top official of the Estonian Railways' infrastructure service who is suspected of large-scale informed violation of a procedural restriction laid down in the Anti-Corruption Act. The employee is also suspected of taking part in a competition-related offense,» spokesman for the Public Prosecutor's Office Ilmar Kahro told the news portal of the public broadcaster ERR.

According to Kahro on Mar. 1 suspicions were brought against two other people who are not officials.

The number of suspects and the suspicions brought against them might still change, Kahro said. He added that no suspects have been detained at the moment.
