A change of leadership is due soon in the Narva chapter of the Center Party, the party's chairman Edgar Savisaar said on Thursday.

«I would dare forecast that in a month or two there will be other hands on the helm of the Center Party in Narva,» Savisaar said in an interview with Tallinn TV.

Commenting on the developments in the council of Narva earlier in the day that saw the Center Party backed mayor brought down in a confidence vote, Savisaar said that in his opinion this was a result of problems between individuals and not of nationwide topics.

A week ago the Centrist group which used to govern Narva split in the council and the opposition filed a motion of no confidence in the mayor, Eduard East. The 15 councilors who split from the 21-strong group of deputies elected to the council on the Centrist list set up a new group called United Narva.

The motion of no confidence against the mayor was carried with 20 votes. The sitting was attended by 27 out of the council's 31 members.

The Narva chapter of the Center Party is led by Andrus Tamm. However, MP Mihhail Stalnuhhin, who backs the camp of Kadri Simson, Savisaar's main contender for chairmanship ahead of Sunday's party congress, is seen by many as the actual leader of the Narva regional organization.
