On Wednesday one of the largest transport aircraft in the world, a C-5M Super Galaxy of the U.S. Air Force, landed at the Estonian Amari air base.

The Estonian Air Force has not received so big an aircraft before.

According to the chief of the base,  Lt. Col. Ular Lohmus, previous visitors in the category of very big planes include An-124 and C-17 aircraft land at Amari almost on a daily base, military spokespeople in Tallinn said.

«The landing of the C-5 at Amari gives us an excellent opportunity to practice receiving very large transport aircraft,» Lohmus said adding that a C-5 has earlier landed in Tallinn but never at Amari.

The plane arrived in Estonia from the Ramstein air base in Germany and will proceed to the Dover Air Force Base in the United States today.

The aircraft arrived in Estonia in connection with a joint Estonian-U.S. Air Force training scheduled to begin next week. On Tuesday and Wednesday necessary equipment was airlifted to Estonia also by Boeing 747-400F aircraft, which likewise had not landed at Amari before.
