Speaking at a press conference in Tallinn on Friday, U.S. Senator John McCain called the sentencing of Estonian security official Eston Kohver in Russia unjust and said Kohver must be released immediately.

«On behalf not only of the three of us, but of the citizens of Arizona and the citizens of the United States of America I express our outrage at the treatment of Eston Kohver, at the unjust punishment. It is an outrage and it is a indication again that we are dealing with a thug and a brute named Vladimir Putin,» the Arizona Republican who visited Estonia with two other members of the Senate -- Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse and Republican John Barrasso -- said at the press conference in the VIP room of Tallinn Airport.

«He has violated the sovereignty of an independent nation and sentenced to prison an innocent man,» McCain said. «We demand his immediate release so he can return to his country and his family.»

This visit by the three senators is part of a larger regional trip, which also includes stops in Norway, Sweden and Latvia.
