The new composition of the board of governors of the Tallinn University of Technology (TTU) on Thursday appointed Jaak Aaviksoo rector of the university.

Aaviksoo was appointed with votes eight to three.

At the same meeting the board of governors unanimously elected Gunnar Okk as chairman.

According to Okk the board of governors came to an understanding that no laws were breached by naming Aaviksoo the new rector and therefore the body found no reason to not appoint him to office.

"The Tallinn University of Technology needs a decisive leader who understands its workings and place in today's society, and who would be able to carry out radical changes if needed," Okk said.
