The condition of the leader of the Estonian Center Party Edgar Savisaar has not changed significantly and doctors don't consider a new operation necessary at this point, the party said on Tuesday.

Doctors for Edgar Savisaar are generally satisfied with the outcome of Monday's operation and see no reason for additional surgical intervention now. The chairman of the Center Party remains in an intensive care unit of Tartu University Hospital, spokespeople for Center told BNS.

Savisaar, 64, who has led the Center Party since its inception in 1991 save for a brief period in 1995-1996, has been in critical condition in Tartu University Hospital as a result of a severe streptococcal infection since the middle of last week. On Monday doctors amputated his right leg above knee to prevent spread of the disease.
