Woman dies, another sustains injuries in snowtubing accident near Estonian ski resort

A 49-year-old woman died and a woman one year her junior sustained injuries in a snowtubing accident near the south Estonian ski resort Otepaa on Tuesday.

In the accident that happened around 12:30 p.m. two women sustained injuries as a result of going off the slope and hitting a tree while snowtubing, police spokespeople said. The injuries of the 49-year-old woman were so grave that medics were unable to save her life.

The accident happened at Ansomae sports center.

The gates of the center, which is supposed to be open until 8 p.m., remained shut in the afternoon, the regional newspaper Valgamaalane said.

An investigation has been started.
