President Toomas Hendrik Ilves has rejected a request to pardon former agriculture minister and MP Ester Tuiksoo who was convicted of accepting gratuities.

After going over the submitted clemency requests, the president on Jan. 15 signed a resolution to pardon one convicted person. Ilves decided to shorten the sentence of one convict by two years on humanitarian considerations, a spokesperson for the president told BNS.

Ilves rejected clemency requests of 13 convicts, including Tuiksoo. The former agriculture minister was found guilty of accepting gratuities in the so-called land swap case and given a suspended sentence of three months last summer.
