13-y-o boy in serious condition after stabbing by 16-y-o

A 13-year-old schoolboy was reported in serious condition after being stabbed with a knife by a boy three years his senior in a village situated some 50 kilometers to the south of the capital Tallinn on Friday.

Police received a call about a 13-year-old boy having sustained a stab wound in the course of a row with another boy in Habaja village in the territory of Harju County, spokesperson for the Police and Border Guard Board Helen Uldrich told BNS on Tuesday.

The boy was hospitalized and his condition is serious but not life threatening, she added.

The 16-year-old was detained on the scene and taken to a police station for questioning.

The prosecutor has not sought custody for the suspected stabber as the boy has no previous criminal record, is underage, and is cooperating with the investigation in every way.

An investigation has been opened on the basis of the article of the Penal Code dealing with causing of serious health damage.

The spokesperson underscored that the case did not fall into the so-called school shooting category but was about a row between two minors.
