Thirteen homeless from Tallinn are to spend two days in Brussels next week at the invitation of Estonian MEP Indrek Tarand to get acquainted with the work of the European Parliament.

A group of inhabitants of Tallinn's social accommodation units and shelters will visit Brussels at Tarand's invitation on Nov. 19-20 for a first-hand overview of the work done there, the Tallinn city government said.

The program of the trip features a sightseeing tour of the Belgian capital and the European Parliament building with an opportunity to participate in the parliament's question hour thrown in. The group will also visit the Belgian war museum.

"The work of the European Parliament concerns all of us although it always appears to take place at an unreachable height. Our customers personally have no opportunity whatsoever to travel in Europe, let alone get acquainted with such an institution. The forthcoming trip will no doubt lift self-esteem, increase faith in oneself and boost the will to better cope in life," head of the Tallinn Social Welfare center Kersti Poldemaa said.

The group will stay at Hotel des Colonies and Tarand will also give them dinner at a restaurant.
