Estonian MP Marianne Mikko, who visited South Korea as part of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation, called on the East Asian country to join sanctions against Russia.

The delegation that was on a visit to South Korea for a week met with members of the country's national assembly as well as with Defense Minister Han Min-koo and Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul, spokespeople for the Estonian parliament said.

«I asked the Korean government to join the sanctions against Russia. I exemplified my idea with saying that if Estonia would have been a free country in 1950, our military contingent would have definitely fought for Korea's freedom. Without the help of 16 countries the Republic of Korea wouldn't be the country that it is today,» Mikko said.

According to Mikko politicians of South Korea expressed worry over North Korea, and the delegation gave an overview of the security situation in Europe as well as the Ukraine crisis.

Mikko is head of the Estonian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
