President Barack Obama said USA is intending to grant the Baltic region an additional air force unit and Ämari Air Base in Estonia would be the ideal location.

At joint press conference in Tallinn with Estonia’s President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Mr Obama said the United States boosted Baltic air policing this spring and sent more planes.

According to Mr Obama, the Ämari base is an ideal spot for rotating air force units in the Baltics, as well as for supporting equipment. «I’m convinced the arrival of the US air force unit to Ämari will become reality,» said Mr Obama.

Mr Obama said he plans to touch upon the subject at his meeting today, in Kadriorg, with all three Baltic presidents present.
