Saturday night, Tax and Customs Board staff discovered, in a Volkswagen Passat stopped for a check, over a hundred kilograms of substance suspected to be hashish.

The vehicle was sent to Luhamaa border point for extra examination. X-raying the VW, officials spotted a cache build into the roof. In it, says initial TCB data, they found and confiscated a total of 100.5 kg of hashish.

According to TCB investigative department drug division head Urmet Tambre, it is the agency’s priority to cut drug use and fight organised crime. «The confiscation of the second large load within a short period of time is a strong and clear signal to criminal groupings: it isn’t easy to get drugs into Estonia; and: this is no easy transit corridor to get drugs to Russia or Nordics,» said Mr Tambre.

Pre-court investigation of the criminal procedure is being carried out by Tax and Customs Board under supervision of Office of the Prosecutor General.

In March, about the same amount of hashish was found by TCB at Luhamaa border point – 102.8 kg, in a BMW X5.
