Yesterday the Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General Alar Streimann drew the names of the winners of the web-based «Estonia Quiz 2014». The two grand prizes of a trip for two to Estonia went to entries from the United States and Russia. In addition, three Estonian travel packages were also drawn and the winners come from Austria, Latvia and Greece.

The goal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quiz is to introduce Estonia to the citizens of other countries by offering participants new and interesting facts, giving them an incentive to look for more information about Estonia, and of course encouraging them to visit Estonia.

7572 people took part in the quiz this year. Secretary General Alar Streimann said that the number of participants met expectations and that people in a total of 110 countries showed interest in the quiz. “The large number of participants shows that there continues to be a great interest in Estonia. Respondents included people from all over the world, including from Bahrain, Ethiopia, Kuwait, Indonesia, and Syria,” Streimann added.

The most respondents were from Russia, the U.S., Belarus, Ukraine, Germany and Latvia.

The quiz was held in two languages. 4454 people took part in the English-language quiz and 2560 people answered questions as part of the Russian-language quiz.  A total of 5147 people answered all the questions correctly.

Respondents of the English-language quiz were eligible to win one of three trips to Estonia this summer. The English grand prize, a six-day tour package, includes return airfare for two to Estonia from Estonian Air, accommodation at the Telegraph and L'Ermitage hotels in Tallinn, a city tour in Tallinn courtesy of Estravel, dinner at the Bonaparte restaurant, Tallinn VIP Cards for visiting sights in the city courtesy of the City of Tallinn, visits to the Open Air Museum and Seaplane Harbour and a bicycle tour from the Citybike company.

Also included is a trip to Pärnu, where the winner will stay at the Tervise Medical Spa hotel.

Prizes awarded for the Russian-language quiz included two travel packages to Estonia. The grand prize winner receives two return airline tickets to and from Estonia courtesy of Estonian Air. During the six-day long trip, accommodation will be at the Three Sisters Hotel in Tallinn and Ammende Villa in Pärnu, with dinners at the Gloria and Baieri Kelder restaurants. In addition, the winner will visit the Lahemaa National Park, where they will stay at the Sagadi Manor Hotel. Estravel is providing the winner with a tour of the city and the City of Tallinn is presenting a Tallinn VIP Card. The winner will also visit the Seaplane Harbour and take part in a bike tour of Tallinn organised by Citybike.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the web-based quiz for the nineteenth time, with the first quiz taking place in 2001.

The quiz consisted of twelve different multiple-choice questions about Estonia. People were able to answer the questions from March 1 to May 31.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to thank all the participants and supporters of this year’s quiz.
