President Toomas Hendrik Ilves sent congratulations on the Independence Day of Finland to the Head of State of our northern neighbours, Sauli Niinistö.

«Co-operation with those who have the same way of thinking is something that makes independence more secure and pleasant. Finland and Estonia are fellow travellers with many connections,» Ilves wrote. «The power of songs and words was used to build a bridge between Estonia and Finland at the end of the 19th century. Very soon, X-road will be the connection between Estonia and Finland. The bridge is still the same; simply, the tools have changed.»

«I am happy that Estonia has a neighbour like Finland,» President Ilves assured.

«May your blue cross flag wave proudly!» wrote the Estonian Head of State to the Finnish President Niinistö on Finnish Independence Day.
