While the overall number of offenses against person in Estonia has slightly increased this year compared to the previous year, the number of manslaughters and murders has significantly decreased.

If in the first eight months of 2011 law enforcement agencies registered 62 and during the same period of the previous year 52 killings, this year 42 such crimes have been committed, which is the smallest number since reindependence. A slight decrease was observed also in grave bodily injuries and rapes, the former dropping by three from the year-earlier 64 and the latter by one from 94.

The total tally of offenses against person meanwhile came to 4,636, which is 242 more than registered during January-August 2012. Physical abuse episodes increased the most, from the year-earlier 3,482 to 3,682.

The number of threatenings rose from 460 to 477 and that of torture, from 51 to 83.
