The city government of Tallinn has decided to hand to the city council the draft of a second supplementary budget that would increase this year's budget by 2.5 million euros.

If approved by the council the extra budget would raise the capital city's budget for the current year to 500.7 million euros, spokespeople for the city government said.

«The main source of funds for the supplementary budget is bigger than planned revenue from the personal income tax,» Mayor Edgar Savisaar said. «Personal income tax receipts are growing for two reasons - the increase in the number of income receivers registered as Tallinners, on the one hand, and on the other the growth of taxable income, i.e. pay rise. Revenues from the road closure tax and parking charges will also be somewhat bigger than originally projected.»

The supplementary budget allocates additional funds for childcare allowances and pension top-ups, renovation of a public sauna, construction of the Tallinn Zoo's environmental education center and reconstruction of streetcar tracks. Funds are provided also to cover the expenses of kindergartens and schools, for environmental protection, enterprise support and road maintenance.
