The state-owned electric passenger train operator AS Elektriraudtee, which is set to take over all of Estonia's domestic passenger train routes from 2014, will change its business name to Elron.

While the official name change will take place in mid-October, the changeover will gradually begin in September, the company said.

The government's decision to award all of the brand new Stadler electric and diesel trains that Estonia is in the process of acquiring with the help of EU funds to the state-held carrier means that the once electric-only operator will become also the operator of all subsidized non-electric train routes starting next year.
