Valga records Estonia's highest temperature for 2013 at 32.5 degrees

An air temperature of 32.5 degrees Celsius was officially measured in the southern border town Valga on Thursday afternoon, marking a new Estonian heat record for 2013.

Next after Valga came Viljandi with 32.3 degrees, Toravere with 32.0 and Jogeva and Voru with 31.9 degrees each. Overall, air temperatures higher than 30 degrees were measured at 11 weather stations.

The record for 2012 was measured in the northeastern border town Narva-Joesuu at 33.4 degrees on July 29 that year.

The all-time high of air temperature in Estonia dates from Aug. 11, 1992 when 35.6 degrees was measured in the southeastern regional capital Voru.
