Policemen of the Estonian West prefecture were in Latvia this weekend to help their Latvian colleagues keep order at the Positivus Festival which is popular also among Estonians.

The Positivus Festival is so near to the Estonian border that it is a known fact that many Estonians take part in it, spokeswoman for the West prefecture Kristi Kais said. «To meet the policemen from one's own country and seek their help in one's own language in case of a problem is an obvious luxury and this kind of opportunity is not offered everywhere,» Kais told BNS, adding that six policemen from Parnu police station helped to keep order.

The cooperation between the Estonian West prefecture and the Latvian Vidzeme region police department is based on an agreement between Estonian and Latvian governments. Latvian policemen have also been to Estonia to help keep order, for example at the Viljandi Folk Music Festival.
