Consumption of eggs and meat increases in Estonia in 2012

Residents of Estonia consumed on the average 203 eggs, 122.3 kilograms of fresh milk products and 67.2 kilograms of meat during 2012, figures released by Statistics Estonia show.

In 2011, consumption per resident was 193 eggs, 121.1 kilograms of milk products and 73.1 kilograms of meat.

The most popular meat was pork, the consumption of which in 2012 was 31.7 kilograms per resident, down from 35.5 kilograms in 2011.

Of beef, on the average 10.2 kilograms and of poultry meat 22.6 kilograms was consumed per resident last year. A year earlier the figures were respectively 11.4 and 22 kilograms.

Overall meat production in Estonia during 2012 totaled 81,300 tons, which is 2.1 percent less than the year before.
