An Estonian real estate businessman escaped with injuries on Monday after police in the Thai resort town Pattaya intercepted the vehicle in which he was being abducted by a hit squad allegedly hired by a Peruvian man to kill him, the news portal PattayaOne said.

A Peruvian man identified by the portal by a single name as Alexander, aged 41, reportedly purchased a condominium from the Estonian agent, named by the portal as Janik Kisaloo, 34, for four million baht or 98,500 euros. The Peruvian claimed that the title deeds were transferred to Kisaloo, who intended to deceive the buyer and sell the condo to a third party.

The angered Peruvian resorted to the services of a Russian-led hit squad whom he paid to abduct and then kill Kisaloo in a remote area outside of Pattaya.

The squad that came after the Estonian consisted of six men, including five foreign nationals. The sixth member was identified as 40-year-old Khun Pongsatorn, former member of the Thai Air Force.

The gang's leader Sergey Erokhin, a 52-year-old from Russia, led the men to the target's home early on Monday afternoon. When Kisaloo emerged from the house the gang wearing balaclavas and armed with stun guns and a hammer forced him into the back seat of the Russian's white Honda Accord.

They abductors were also carrying a syringe containing an unknown blue colored liquid, purple sleeping tablets and a small amount of a white powder thought to be cocaine.

The victim's abduction was witnessed by his wife, who called the police. Law enforcement officers were able to intercept the Honda in heavy traffic on the North Pattaya Road. The two back-up vehicles containing three foreign men were able to escape and the cars were later found abandoned.

The provincial police chief on Monday held a press conference at the Pattaya police station to announce the arrest of the Peruvian, the Russian and the Thai man. The Estonian was sent to hospital with facial injuries including what is believed to be broken nose.

Police are now searching for the three remaining members of the hit squad who are thought to be Russian.
