Interior security officials from Estonia will counsel Latvia on the construction of a new prison with cell-type housing in that country.

Estonia's Justice Minister Hanno Pevkur and his Latvian counterpart Janis Bordans are scheduled to sign a cooperation memorandum between the two ministries on June 26 concerning the building of a state-of-the-art prison in Olaine, Latvia.

The large facility at Olaine in central Latvia is due to be completed in 2018 and it will be the first prison of that type in Latvia. Estonia already has similar prisons in the southern regional capital Tartu and in Johvi in the country's northeast.
