Of Estonia's mobile telephone operators Elisa Eesti gained the most telephone numbers in May, according to number portability statistics of the Estonian Technical Surveillance Authority.

Elisa gained 1,182 numbers and EMT 363 numbers while Tele2 Eesti lost 1,544 numbers.

In April 1,078 numbers moved out of the Tele2 network, EMT gained 266 numbers and 819 numbers moved to the network of Elisa. During the first five months of the year Tele2 lost 5,541 numbers, while EMT and Elisa gained respectively 2,233 and 3,325 numbers.

Elisa was the biggest gainer also in terms of landline numbers, gaining 161 numbers in May. Forty-eight numbers moved into the network of Elion and Starman gained 85 numbers. OU Gonetwork lost the most telephone numbers -- 364.

In the five months January to May Elion has lost 3,839 landline numbers. Elisa has gained 3,055 and Starman 881 numbers.

The Technical Surveillance Authority said a total of 7,342 numbers were ported in May of which 6,585 were mobile phone numbers and 757 landline numbers.

Number portability figures reflect the movement of real mobile and landline numbers from one operator to another but are not directly connected with the total number of customers who sign up with or abandon a service provider as one customer can have several numbers under one contract. The figures do not reflect changes in the overall number of a company's clients.

Number portability was introduced for landline numbers in 2004 and for mobile numbers in 2005.
