Eesti Energia abandons refinery plan.

State-owned energy giant Eesti Energia announced yesterday that it has launched negotiations with Viru Keemia Grupp (VKG) and Kiviõli Keemiatööstus for a joint diesel fuel refinery as a small refinery of its own would not longer pay in light of recent developments. The company's decision to postpone diesel production beyond 2016 is attributed to heightened business risks, the EU fuel directive that bans use of oil shale-based diesel in the union and the fact that the company is yet to fine tune its refinement technology.

Member of the board of VKG Jaanus Purga said that the company plans to stick to its refinery plan and chosen technology and that it would be happy to cooperate with Eesti Energia as a joint refinery would allow for greater production volumes and favorable risk management.

EA wins court battle with Bombardier.

National airline Estonian Air has won against Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier in court, freeing the airline of its obligation to buy the company's aircraft. While Bombardier tried to claim that the airline's decision to opt for Brazilian Embraers instead of its CRJ600 jets in the middle of the procurement process was influenced by the Estonian government, the Canadian court found no such evidence.
