Internal minister nominates Sinisalu for KAPO chief.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ken-Marti Vaher has nominated Deputy Director of the Security Police (KAPO) Arnold Sinisalu for the position of the agency's chief. The minister said that Sinisalu is a meritorious public servant who has been with the agency since 1993 and who has experience in different fields of administration. Vaher said that the fact Sinisalu has a doctoral degree doesn't hurt either "as you don't see many of those in Estonia yet" and because such a good legal education provides a very good basis for running a security agency. Vaher told journalists he has been in contact with coalition partner the Reform Party and believes Sinisalu's candidacy will find support in both the government and parliament. The term of office of current director Raivo Aeg will expire in the middle of June.

Center Party just shy of absolute majority in Tallinn.

Polling company TNS Emor's local governments survey suggests that the Center Party, ruling in Tallinn, has managed to boost its popularity among the city's voters from 35 percent to 47 percent and has nearly enough projected votes for an absolute majority in the capital. The support rating of the Reform Party has dropped from 17 percent to 13 percent over the past month and that of social democrats from 17 percent to 12 percent. The popularity of the Pro Patria Res Publica Union (IRL) has climbed by 4 points to 10 percent.
