Inflow of tax revenue into the state budget of Estonia in April totaled 390.9 million euros, marking an increase by 22.8 million euros or 6.2 percent over the same month a year ago.

Just like in previous months, increased receipts of income tax and social tax had the biggest positive effect on overall tax revenue intake, whereas the rate of increase in VAT was modest, the Ministry of Finance said.

VAT receipts in April were 2.3 percent bigger than a year ago, yet in line with changes in the sales data of retail enterprises receipts have been on a downward trend in recent months.

The declared turnovers of five of the biggest areas of activity, such as food, construction, motor vehicles, wholesale and retail, even declined in March compared with the same month last year.

While consumption of fuels has increased in Estonia mainly in connection with the declining price of fuel, this has not been expressed in tax receipts yet. In March 17 percent more fuel was sold in retail, yet the amounts declared for excise levying purposes dropped 8.3 percent.

In the four months January to April, receipts of the gambling tax grew 5 percent year on year. Of gambling tax receipts tax collected on slot machines makes up 55.8 percent and tax on gaming tables and lotteries 38.9 percent.
