Government decides public servants' pay rise.

After discussing Estonia's long term fiscal strategy and use of European subsidies on Tuesday afternoon, the government reached an agreement that will see the salaries of public sector workers rise while the topic of minimum income exempt from tax will be put on hold until August-September and next year's economic forecast. Both Minister of Social Affairs Taavi Rõivas and Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts praised the agreement.

"We struck a very good and balanced deal that will put European resources to use introducing structural changes into our economy," Parts said. Minister of Finance Jürgen Ligi said he will comment on the agreement once the government officially approves the budget plan and use of subsidies today.

Environmental fee hike unconstitutional.

Chancellor of Justice Indrek Teder has found new mining and special use of water rights fees to be unconstitutional proceeding from the principle of legitimate expectation as the government's April hike turned out to be more vigorous and extensive than previously promised.

Fish perish for lack of oxygen

Lakes, long lidded by ice, are melting up at last. However, the spring-time sight may not be pretty.

Whoever walks the banks of Lake Kambja, will smell the rot: thousands of dead fish afloat in shallow waters. From small roach to pike of three-four kilos. Suffocated. They call it the winter kill.

Even carps can be seen, perished – the ones supposed to be more resistant to freeze outs. From this we may conclude that a large part of the lake’s fish-life may be wiped out.

TV3 megaproject surprise rise to TV top

Week after week, the TV 3 springtime megaproject Your Face Sounds Familiar(Su nägu kõlab tuttavalt) keeps getting tremendous ratings. These past weeks, viewers come above quarter of a million.

Last Sunday, the parody show was, according to TNS Emor data, watched by 272,000 people. The second best, ETV’sÕnne 13, lost by 80,000 viewers. Success of such calibre has lasted for weeks.
