Unions in favor of simpler import of foreign specialists.

The Estonian Trade Unions Confederation has voiced support to the proposed amendment to the Foreigners Act that would make it easier for foreign specialists and students to come to Estonia as the confederation concludes it would lead to a general rise in salaries. "We find that involvement of foreign specialists would help Estonia move towards a smarter and more productive economy through which it would have a positive effect on the salaries of local people," said head of the confederation Peep Peterson. The amendment in question would make it a lot easier for foreign skilled workers, entrepreneurs and students to secure residence and work permits in Estonia.

Bus terminals obligated to help disabled people.

An amendment to the Public Transport Act states that bus terminals will in the future carry the obligation to help disabled people board vehicles and gain access to information. "The European Parliament and Council regulation does not specify concrete standards and leaves the number of terminals that need to comply and relevant procedures up to Member States," said economy ministry press representative Rasmus Ruuda. He added that currently the ministry has secured consent from Tallinn Bus Terminal that remains the only one of its kind able to comply with the regulation at this time. Failure to comply with the regulation could lead to a 3,200 euro fine.
