Estonia's ruling Reform Party has accepted 1,982 new members since the beginning of the year and with a total membership of more than 13,400 is catching up with the opposition Center Party.

According to data of the commercial register, the Center Party had 13,433, the Reform Party 13,415, Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) 9,764 and the Social Democratic Party (SDE) 6,069 members as of Thursday morning.

"People are joining us mainly because of the values for which the Reform Party has stood for nearly two decades. In recent years new members have mostly come from among parents, pensioners and students. All of them have the common wish to make Estonia better," the party's secretary general Martin Kukk said through a spokesperson.
