Tallinn population grows by almost 1,400 in February

The number of residents of the Estonian capital Tallinn was 424,445 as of Friday morning, by 1,396 bigger than on the first day of February, figures from the Population Register show.

During January the number of people registered as residents of the capital city grew by 3,219, and in the first two months of the year the number became bigger by 4,615 or by more than during the whole of 2012, when the number of Tallinners increased by 3,686, spokespeople for the city government told BNS.

In December the city's population increased by 1,248, in November by 475 and in October by 366.

As on the morning of Jan. 1 the number of registered residents was 419,830. The 422,000 mark was crossed by the evening of Jan. 21, the 423,000 mark by Feb. 1 and the 424,000 mark by Feb. 19.

Compared with the 416,144 people who lived in Tallinn as officially registered residents at the start of 2012, an increase by 8,301 people or almost 2 percent has taken place.
