  1. Editorial: on state reform hour and our Eiffel Tower

For headline, picking this little rhyme from President’s anniversary speech. Which begs some explanation. Namely: Eiffel Tower being built in honour of 100th jubilee of French Revolution. In five years, Republic of Estonia is 100 years old – and many may be racking their brains over how to celebrate it real grand. It would come as no surprise if ideas pop up about buildings or something unpractical and monumentally hollow.

Rein Veidemann: the existential Estonia of Nüganen

It was, of course, to be expected – something grand for our Anniversary, once Elmo Nüganen gets involved. However, the most critical of critics were surely overwhelmed by what actually transpired.

A simple, childlike and sincere show on Estonia’s journey; still filled with food for thought, its message commanding compassion. In a word: existential.

Police «able to find internet revilers in Estonia»

Police says it is able, if needed, to find people posting threats, libel and defamation in Estonian legal system and prove their guilt. It is more difficult with international websites, however.

Anu Baum of Central Criminal Police stressed that defaming or reviling is not criminalised in Estonia. «However, it has been deemed necessary to criminalise defaming or insulting judges, representatives of state authority and other persons protecting public order,» said Ms Baum.
