The President of the Republic presented the Commander of the Defence Forces and the Chief of the Headquarters with their new General rank insignia

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves promoted Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, Riho Terras, to the rank of Major General and the Chief of the Headquarters, Peeter Hoppe, to the rank of Brigadier General, attaching new rank insignia to their shoulders.

"Generals Terras and Hoppe are Estonian officers with a modern mindset, who have demonstrated that they undersand which threats we face today and what is the securest way of being prepared for these threats, if facing them," President Ilves said.

The head of state expressed his delight that the families of the Commander of the Defence Forces and the Chief of the Headquarters were also in Kadriorg.

"Thank you for being supportive and constituting a strong rear for your husbands and fathers," he said.
