A trial will start in the Harju regional court in Tallinn next week in which a mother and daughter, aged 54 and 32, are accused of enslaving women working as prostitutes.

According to the indictment, 54-year-old Raissa and 32-year-old Diana rented apartments in various districts of Tallinn from 2006-2012 and provided them to women working as prostitutes to live in and engage in prostitution. The accused advertised prostitutes' services on the web, accepted phone calls and directed clients to the apartments, did accounting and charged the prostitutes a previously agreed percentage of their earnings.

In addition the duo allegedly used cash fines to force at least two prostitutes to provide their services for free and let Raissa and Diana pocket the whole sum paid. Besides Raissa is accused of threatening two witnesses with reprisals should they give testimony incriminating her daughter.

Police detained Diana and Raissa as suspects on April 10, 2012 and a court remanded Diana in custody for six months. The two have been charged with enslaving and being accessories to prostitution, with Raissa charged separately with threatening a witness.

Neither of the women has been convicted of a crimial offense earlier.
