In a public inquiry organized to find alternative locations for the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences in the East-Viru County the data of ten possible locations were suggested in the inquiry.

Five of these are located in the city of Johvi and in the Johvi rural municipality, two in the Vaivara rural municipality, two in Narva and one in Narvas Joesuu, Riigi Kinnisvara AS (RKAS) informed BNS.

RKAS will soon check whether the locations offered meet the requirements and will carry out a preliminary analysis, the results of which will be handed in to the Interior Ministry in March.

Estonia's Riigi Kinnisvara AS (State Real Estate Ltd. RKAS ) last December announced a public inquiry with the aim of finding a suitable site for the Academy of Security Sciences in the East-Viru County, the company said.

By the inquiry the aim is to get an overview of the market situation of the area, of the properties offered, to map the possible suitable locations and to carry out a preliminary analysis.

By the inquiry a property or land area from ten to hectares where it would be possible to put up a building complex of 30,000 to 35,000 square meters is being looked for. The site should be situated in a city or in its vicinity and if the site is not in a city then not more than one kilometer from the highway. It should have a good access by motor and public transport. The complex would have about 1,000 students and about 200 employees.

In addition to the buildings connected with studies and dormitories there should be a possibility for building an outdoor shooting range, a stadium and an autodrome for driving practice. The deadline of the bids is February 4 next year.

In April 2011 IRL and the Reform Party signed a coalition agreement in which they promised to consider building of a new Academy of Security Sciences complex in the East-Viru County. In accordance with preliminary assessments the cost of building a new study complex could be 98.7 million euros.

In August the Academy of Security Sciences carried out its own analysis the result of which did not support moving the academy to the East-Viru County.
