Latvian customs officials detained last week at the country's border with Lithuania an Estonia-registered passenger car with a stash of narcotic substances with a street value of around 550,000 euros.

According to the Latvian customs agency, about 110 kilograms of hashish and 0.5 grams of cocaine was found concealed in the BMW car, the biggest haul found at the country's border this year.

The Latvian authorities cooperated with Estonian law enforcers on the case. During the January 31 operation the suspect BMW was stopped near Grenctale at the Latvian-Lithuanian border. There were two Estonians aged 24 and 30 in the car. A thourough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 250 small packages of drugs hidden in doors and fenders and other parts of the car.

A criminal procedure has been launched and a Riga court on Friday issued a warrant for the arrest of the Estonians and seizure of their car.
