An Estonian company, Invent Baltics OU, leads the European space industry's survey about the future trends of the nano satellites sector.

The European Commission supports the project with approximately half a million euros and Tartu Observatory of Estonia is involved in the project as a research partner, the observatory said on Thursday.

"The purpose of the project is to chart the nano satellite development projects under way in Europe and to set out in the course of two years a vision regarding the future trends of nano satellites and possibilities of their use," the manager of Invent Baltics, Silver Toomla, said.

The other international partners in the project, titled "Utilizing the potential of NANOSATellites for the implementation of European Space Policy and space innovation," are the University of Aalborg from Denmark, the company OHB from Germany and the Swedish Space Corporation subsidiary Nanospace AB, which rank among the best known space sector companies in Europe.

"During the first five years of cooperation between Estonia and the European Space Agency we have created an impressive web of relations with companies and research institutions of the space domain all over the world," said the director of Tartu Observatory, Anu Reinart. She said it was apparently because of this that the European Commission entrusted the consortium with drawing up the forecast concerning the space industry's small satellites sector.

Young specialists who took part in the development of the ESTCube-1 student satellite of Estonia will take part in carrying out project, the press release said.

Invent Baltics OU is an innovation consulting company that has a track record in setting up international consortia for technology development and commercialization, business consulting of technology based enterprises and management of international research projects.
